Sand Tray Therapy

When discussing difficult topics and/or negative emotional events, it can be challenging to verbally open up about these experiences and jump straight into discussing and reliving them. This is why it is important to provide clients with alternative methods of self-expression that are just as valid in allowing the client to discover more about themselves. One such technique is sand tray therapy, a type of play therapy.

VeryWellMind states that sand tray therapy is often used with clients that have experienced a traumatic event. In this modality, the therapist will provide the client with a sand-filled tray and different toys to create a fictional “play world.” It is believed that the client will create a world that is somehow representative of their different struggles and/or conflict that they are experiencing. The therapist will discuss with the client what was created in an attempt to glean insight from how the client may have strategically arranged the setting.

At Madrigal, we strive to create as many diverse opportunities as possible for people to express what they are going through. You are not alone in your healing journey, and we look forward to making the process of healing as accessible as possible.
