EMDR Therapy

Processing and reliving a traumatic experience can feel extremely daunting. It’s understandable to feel apprehensive about processing these experiences in detail because of the stress and fear it may cause you. However, there is a way to focus on altering your relationship to negative side effects resulting from the trauma without having to go into detail, and that technique is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

According to the Cleveland Clinic, EMDR involves moving your eyes in a specific manner while processing traumatic events. This technique focuses on assessing a client’s relationship to the emotions, thoughts, and feelings surrounding a traumatic event and reprocessing those in a more psychologically healthy way. As you access memories, you will be able to reframe your relationship to them by working to instill positive beliefs about yourself.
